The salary is not the cost

An in-house seat in Portugal costs considerably more than the salary on the contract. This page shows how much, line by line, and sets it against the cost of the same work across our network.

No form

The calculator works without registration and without asking for your details. If you then want a proposal, that is a separate and voluntary step.

Why comparing salaries always gives the wrong answer

Because it compares different things. A gross salary is what the employee sees; the employer's cost includes social security, the fourteen annual payments, the meal allowance and everything needed for the person to work. Setting a Portuguese salary against a supplier's rate always flatters the supplier.

The fourteen payments are what international comparisons most often miss. In Portugal the holiday and Christmas subsidies are not discretionary bonuses: they are pay, they attract social security, and they add two months to the annual cost before any other charge.

So this calculator loads both sides the same way and shows every line, including the ones that make our own number less favourable. If an honest comparison narrows the gap, we would rather you saw that here than discovered it halfway through a contract.

Frequently asked questions

Why is total cost so much higher than the salary?

Because it includes fourteen payments a year, 23.75 per cent employer social security on those payments, the meal allowance, space, equipment, recruitment, attrition and supervision. Typically between 1.8 and 2.2 times the twelve-month salary. The proportion is highest on the lowest-paid roles, because workspace, equipment and supervision cost much the same whatever the role.

Are the per-role figures official?

No. They are Corpshore estimates anchored on the INE average base salary, marked as estimates in the breakdown. The statutory values are sourced.

Does the calculator ask for my details?

No. It works without registration. Requesting a proposal is a separate and voluntary step.

Is the figure shown a proposal?

No. It is an estimate for comparison. A proposal depends on volumes, hours, languages and compliance requirements.

Is VAT included?

No. Figures exclude VAT, which is added where applicable.

Does the working arrangement change the cost much?

It changes the workspace cost. Hybrid reduces it by around 40 per cent and remote removes it, while equipment and licences remain.

Why does the saving vary so much between destinations?

Because the cost index runs from 33 to 100 depending on destination. The choice also depends on language, time zone and what the data category permits, not only on price.

How often are the values reviewed?

Monthly. The review opens a change for approval rather than updating the site automatically, so no figure changes without someone seeing it.
