Why a Lusophone operation makes sense from Portugal

Portuguese is spoken by around 260 million people across nine states of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries. Portugal is ten million of those, inside the European Union; Brazil is more than two hundred and ten million; Angola and Mozambique add tens of millions and have variants of their own.

Portuguese energy, banking, telecoms, construction and retail companies have operated in Angola, Mozambique and Brazil for decades, and the movement runs both ways: Brazilian groups use Portugal as a European base just as readily.
The practical consequence for a buyer is about recruitment. A coordination team in Lisbon needing someone who has already dealt with an Angolan supply chain or Brazilian invoicing finds that profile in the local market, which is not the case in Warsaw or Dublin.

The Atlantic position, in working hours
Lisbon is an hour behind central Europe, which makes it the European point with the greatest overlap with the United States east coast: five hours ahead of New York in winter and four in summer. For an operation serving both sides of the Atlantic, that is half a shift gained.
To the south, Luanda shares the hour in European summer and is an hour apart in winter, with Maputo one or two. To the west, Sao Paulo is three or four. No other European capital has this combination, and it is what sustains the corridor's coordination tier.
